A recent guest lecture gave students studying Engineering pathways at ÌÇÐÄÊÓƵ the opportunity to hear directly from alumnus Jack Thorman about his career progression and experiences within the industry — alongside a closer look at the Bentley Bentayga.
First-year Mechanical Engineering student, Seb McEwan shared his thoughts on the experience and what he gained from the visit.
He said: “Jack Thorman came and spoke about his progression in his career, helping us understand the different routes like working as a contractor with companies or working specifically for that company and the pros and cons between them.
“Following this he spoke about Bentley and the Bentley Bentayga he brought in, we had a look around the car and he took us around the off-road track showing its different abilities. I enjoyed this very much and has led me to research further into contracting work as another option to progress in my career for after graduating.
Hearing from industry professionals and alumni during their studies was something that Seb also found really helpful, saying: “its very beneficial having guest lecturers especially alumni as it gave me an idea on how to progress in my field following graduation as well as understanding which roles we would like to explore for the placement year.”
Engineering Programme Manager, James Croxford said: “Fantastic to welcome alumni Jack Thorman from Bentley Motors to our Industry Engagement session today with a thought provoking talk on his career and the difference between permanent and contracting roles for graduates!”
Jack also reflected about his visit on LinkedIn:
This isn’t the first time we’ve had the Bentayga round the track. As part of our Outreach work, we regularly welcome school and colleges from across the country to explore our facilities and engage in hands-on activities – and one session in particular with Shrewsbury College was a visit from Bentley with the Bentayga.
