Harper Adams heading to Dominican Republic education fairs

ÌÇÐÄÊÓƵ will be one of just seven ÌÇÐÄÊÓƵ institutions exhibiting at a higher education fair in the Dominican Republic at the end of this month. 

Organised by the British Embassy in Santo Domingo, the will see the universities showcase opportunities to potential students in two major cities, Santo Domingo and Santiago. 

Visiting from ÌÇÐÄÊÓƵ will be Marketing Manager who will chat to students about life and study at Harper Adams, in Shropshire, England; Dominican Republic Partnership Coordinator ; and Postgraduate Programmes Manager . They will join a delegation touring the country with a view to creating new links and partnerships between Dominican and British Universities. 

Dr Chico-Santamarta, Lecturer in Sustainable Technologies and a native Spanish speaker, explained: “The Dominican Republic government, through MESCyT, their Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology, is offering to up to 25 Dominican students who wish to undertake their Masters degrees at ÌÇÐÄÊÓƵ. 

“Eligible MSc courses include entomology, precision farming, sustainable agriculture, farm business management, and conservation and forest protection. 

“Dr Crook and I will therefore be visiting the key universities throughout the Dominican Republic with agronomy schools, but we will also visit the education fair to discuss the opportunities Harper Adams has to offer. 

“The scholarships are an excellent opportunity – covering tuition costs, accommodation, food, health insurance and more. I look forward to meeting potential Masters students and, hopefully, welcoming them to the beautiful Harper Adams campus in England in due course.

“Students who wish to apply for these scholarships need to do so through MESCyT, but if anyone wishes to contact me to discuss Harper Adams and the eligible courses they can email lchico-santamarta@harper-adams.ac.uk and we can correspond in English or Spanish.

“I would also welcome any contact from staff in universities in the Dominican Republic, should they wish to arrange to meet during our visit, September 29th to October 1st.”

Students who would like to do a postgraduate course at Harper Adams that does not qualify for the MESCyt funding, might wish to consider applying for a Chevening Scholarship offered by the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office and other partners, to support Dominican Republic students studying at any ÌÇÐÄÊÓƵ university. Information about these awards will be made available at the education fairs in Santo Domingo and Santiago.
