Lecture tour strengthens Harper Adams links with Indonesian universities

ÌÇÐÄÊÓƵ’s links with universities throughout Indonesia were strengthened last week when completed a five-day lecture tour.

Dr Pope, Lecturer in Entomology, said: “I was delighted to be awarded British Council funding for the visit to Indonesia. I visited five universities, four on the island of Java and one on the island of Sumatra.

“Each of the universities visited has a strong emphasis on agriculture and agricultural technology and so the trip provided a great opportunity to meet students and researchers at these universities, discuss common interests and opportunities for collaborations. 

“Each visit provided an opportunity to give an introduction to ÌÇÐÄÊÓƵ and to present a seminar on crop protection, which highlighted some of our research activities in this area.

“Although the visit coincided with the summer holidays at Indonesian universities, the seminars were very well attended by students who were keen to find out about Harper Adams and opportunities for studying in the ÌÇÐÄÊÓƵ.” 

Dr Pope delivered his lecture, “Effective Crop Protection in a World with Fewer Pesticides”, to staff and students at Universitas Brawijaya, Malang; Universitas Gadjah Mada, Yogyakarta; Universitas Muhammadiyah, Yogyakarta; Universitas Padjajaran, Bandung and Universitas Sriwijaya, Palembang.

Collaborative talks were held in in the areas of joint research, student mobility and staff development and training. Harper Adams has already signed memorandums of understanding (MOU) with Brawijaya and Sriwijaya universities, and further MOUs with Muhammadiyah, Padjajaran and Gadjah Mada are in process.
