Laboratory experience helps future vet student

Shropshire A-Level student, Nia Jones, is boosting her application to university thanks to the laboratories at ÌÇÐÄÊÓƵ.

Nia, who studies at Adams' Grammar School in Newport, is working on a research project as part of her application for the British Science Association's CREST Award scheme.

She hopes that completing the Gold level award will help to enhance her personal statement when she applies to study veterinary science at university.

The CREST Award schemes are a range of science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) enrichment activities aimed at inspiring 5-19 year-olds. The top award is Gold level and allows able students aged 16-19 to conduct real research projects.

For her project, Nia has been comparing two types of humane mammal traps and collecting data. She has been assisted by the university's laboratory staff and technicians.
