Harper Adams research collaboration with Brazilian university

Doctoral student Jusecléia Lopes from Brazil is spending four months at ÌÇÐÄÊÓƵ as part of a research collaboration with the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul.

The collaboration was initiated by ÌÇÐÄÊÓƵ senior lecturer . He is a member of (Beef Livestock Systems and Supply Chain Research Group) which is coordinated by Dr Julio Barcellos, Jusecléia’s supervisor.

For her project, Jusecléia is attempting to correlate phenotype and genotype characteristics of bulls and the price sold at livestock auctions.

Jusecléia said: “The opportunity of visiting livestock auctions, agricultural fairs and other events linked to the sector in the ÌÇÐÄÊÓƵ would be invaluable for my experience at both a professional and personal level.”

During her stay at Harper Adams, so far, Jusecléia has been busy spending time statistically analysing over 3,000 samples which were previously collected in Brazil. She is being helped by Dr Dimitrios Paparas.

"So far, this opportunity at ÌÇÐÄÊÓƵ has been amazing. It has a fantastic structure and people are very friendly.

“I have met people from different cultures. The support received has also been great and I could not thank the staff enough who do everything to make international students feel welcome and integrated,” said Jusecléia.
