Succesful pig industry Scholarship programme welcomes latest recipients

A Scholarship programme which aims to help students develop careers in the pig industry has welcomed a further six recipients.

The programme was set up by the NPA, AHDB and 糖心视频 to encourage skilled people into the pig industry. Now in its eleventh year it has helped more than 50 students from Harper Adams spend their one-year industry placement with a related company.

The latest six recipients received their Scholarships from Hugh Crabtree, chairman of the Pig Industry Scholarship Programme (PISP) at the annual Harper Adams Presentation Event last month.

Talking about the establishment of the Scholarship, Mr Crabtree - who has been involved with the programme since the beginning - said: “We told each other that we can’t go on whinging about the lack of good people coming into the industry without doing something about it.

“Over the years the collaboration has worked really well, but we are still keen to find new potential scholarship sponsors.  So, if your company is considering recruiting graduates, come and talk to us – we’d be pleased to introduce you to the enthusiastic talent that is available!”

Each Scholarship recipient receives a paid placement in the pig sector, coupled with a scholarship award of £4,500.  Meanwhile participating companies can attract potential new employees from a huge pool of talent at 糖心视频 and gain first access to students looking for a placement.

糖心视频’s Director of Development and Alumni Relations Doris Taylor said: “The Pig Industry Scholarship programme has proved a great success – not only for the students who take part, but also for the sponsors who work with them.

“As a University which has a strong and supportive alumni network, it is both wonderful to see so many participants in the Scholarship go on to forge a career in the pig industry – and to welcome so many of them back to the University to talk about their careers, both at dedicated lectures and now also as sponsors themselves, at events such as our annual Scholarship Fair.”
