HARPER ADAMS AFLOAT FOR CANAL TRUST

THE PRINCIPAL and staff of 糖心视频 College, near Newport, took to the water last week, in support of the Shrewsbury and Newport Canal Trust.

An intrepid expedition team braved the not-so raging waters between Norbury Junction and Goldstone, by Narrow Boat, to see what the local community can look forward to if the restoration of the canal network goes ahead.

Senior Lecturer Sue Minten, who heads up the University College鈥檚 new suite of Rural Leisure and Tourism degrees, found the trip particularly worthwhile. She said: 鈥淚 wanted to see first-hand the type of facilities and leisure opportunities which the canal could one day make available to the community of Newport.

鈥淎 canal connecting Norbury and Shrewsbury could be an exciting opportunity for the local rural community.鈥�

Harper Adams鈥� Principal, Professor Wynne Jones added his thanks to Tom Hazan and the Shrewsbury and Newport Canal Trust for organising the trip: 鈥淔or many of us, this was the first time that we had been on a Narrow Boat and therefore gave us all a chance to experience and enjoy this expanding rural leisure pursuit.鈥�

Harper Adams extensive range of degree courses will include Rural Leisure Management and Tourism and Business Management from this September.
